Went to see the musical Chess yesterday at the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki. It was great, such a treat! Chess is the first musical I ever saw, and seeing it now again, over 30 years later, I think it was every bit as good as I remember! The songs are super, the singing and acting was excellent, the stage sets were very cleverly done and the audio-visuals were fantastic! I was especially impressed with the way the faces of the leaders of the United States and the Soviet Union were shown in an alternating fashion, merging half a US president’s face with half a Soviet president’s face for a rolling review of key figures during the Cold War – very effective! And definitely worth going!
